Make AI write like you
AI writes like an average writer until you show it how you write. In 15 minutes, you learn a simple way to make it sound like you.
- Prompt
- The text you send to an AI.
- Example
- A real message you wrote. The AI copies its style.
- AI phrase
- A stock phrase that AI uses a lot, like "Here's the thing:".
01 · The question
A message that sounds like a stranger
You are two days late with a job. You need a short message to your client. You ask an AI to write it.
It writes: "I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to reach out regarding the timeline of our project."
You read it. Nobody talks like this. You delete it and write the message yourself.
How can you make AI write like you? Make your guess below.
A made-up case. No real client is involved.
02 · Your guess
What makes AI sound like you?
A wrong guess costs nothing. Guessing first helps you remember the answer. Pick one to open the next part of the lesson.
03 · The 6 steps
Six steps from a stranger's voice to yours
Press Next step to see each step. Steps 1 to 3 teach the AI your voice. Steps 4 to 6 make the text and clean it.
04 · Remember
AI repeats you. It cannot guess you.
AI picks the most likely next words. With no examples, the most likely words are the words of an average writer. That is the stranger's voice.
So show it your words. Then remove what is left over.
At the tailor
A tailor does not guess your size. You bring a shirt that fits, and she copies it. Your messages are the shirt.
In the kitchen
"Make it like my grandma's soup" gets you a guess. Give the cook a bowl to taste, and he gets close.
A good voice prompt has 3 parts
- Examples. 20 to 50 real messages that you wrote. Names removed.
- One rule. "Copy how I write. Do not copy what I say."
- A clean-up. Cut the AI phrases. Read the text out loud.
Why do AI phrases show up at all?
A simple picture: AI learned from a huge pile of text. Stock phrases like "I hope this message finds you well" appear in that pile again and again. So they come out first. The stop-slop skill is a list of these habits, and the rules to cut them.
05 · Two checks
Pass two checks to finish
A miss is fine. Each miss gives you a new case.
Check 1 of 2 · Pick the prompt that works
Check 2 of 2 · Spot the AI phrase
Each message has one part that sounds like AI. Tap it. If you tap the wrong part, you get a hint.
06 · Tell a friend
Your one-minute answer
Say it in your own words. Here is a version you can use:
The one-minute version
"AI writes like an average person, because it picks the most likely words. To fix that, show it 20 to 50 of your own real messages. Tell it: copy how I write, not what I say. Ask it for a short style note and save the note. Then cut the phrases only AI uses, like 'I hope this message finds you well'. Read the result out loud. If you would not say it to a friend, change it."
| Cut openers | "Here's the thing:", "Let me be clear", "The truth is," |
| Cut emphasis | "Let that sink in.", "Make no mistake" |
| Cut habits | Long dashes, adverbs, "not this, but that" lines |

Open ChatGPT or Claude. Paste 20 messages that you wrote. Remove names, numbers and private details first. Then paste this below them:
Read my messages above. Write a style note about how I write: my sentence length, the words I use often, what I never say. Then write this in my voice: [your short job]. Do not use stock phrases like "I hope this message finds you well" or "Here's the thing". Use plain words. No long dashes.
Check: would you send the text as it is? If not, tell the AI which line sounds wrong, and ask again.
Stuck? Ask the AI: "explain a style note like I am new".
